B 1: Construction of dredging equipment and treatment site

The objective of this activity was to construct the dredging equipment, but also to build the treatment system to take care of the dewatering and the rejected water.

1. Design and construction of a new dredging unit and surface raft

The aim of this activity was to construct and assemble the dredging units that are used on the test site in the bay of Malmfjärden.

Because of problems with the original prototypes, the construction phase of the dredging units took longer than expected. In spring 2020, a new dredging unit, Mudster, was finally ready.

The dredging system Mudster consists of three main components:

• an underwater dredging unit
• a control raft at the surface and
• a wire system that moves the raft.

2. Construction of the dewatering and reject water system

The treatment site is a small area close to the test location, where the dredged masses are collected, dewatered and the reject water is treated and then released.
